Another watercooling article.. how i found my new pump.

MY NEW WATERCOOLING SYSTEM

PUMP

Yea i got my new pump!! It was from the local tip. well.. the Bower Bird Shop its called. The ppl there scavenge the tip for E V E R Y T H I N G. except for dead bodies. probably.

Anyways, i went and got a MINI SPA PUMP that sits on the side of your bath and spits out bubbles and water and crap and makes your bath all bubbly.. wow. ok.. anyways, i found this thing, minus PSU, and bought it for 5 bucks. SCHWEET. So i took it home and pulled it apart. Inside there was a sealed pump/motor unit that looked quite durable, and neat. So.. well i pulled it all apart, and used my pocket knife to cut of the extra crap plastic fittings and stuff that i didnt need. THIS IS WHAT WAS LEFT!!!

A VERY awesome 12 volt pump that spits out more water then a garden hose does ON FULL BORE.

This thing emptied my bathroom sink all over ME cos the spout was pointing in my direction and well it works really well. It emptied the sink in 3 seconds. Just spat water everywhere, i wasnt ready for that. But i liked it. anyways here is the pics.

Not big you say? that outlet is about an inch wide.. a little but TOO wide for watercooling but thats ok, the way i am designing it means the input/output diameters dont matter that much..

More pics.

12 volts!!! this thing could be used to put fires out.

The impeller has REVERSE pitch blades... what this means is that the flow rate isnt as HIGH as it would be if they were forward facing. that ok, but it also means that this thing puts out INCREDIBLE pressure. I had problems keeping my fingers over the outlet.

Its also designed for CONTINOUS operation. Which is good news.. kinda since i am using it for watercooling.

I am thinking that even at 12 volts its too much pressure, and i might run it off 9 or something using a regulator. SERIOUSLY this thing is over rated for watercooling a comp.. but this way i can make sure my CPU, GPU, Northbridge is all cooled nicely.

Now i know this goes against my watercooling ZEN, (no DC motors with brushes, cos brushes wear out, and cause EMI), but this thing is LOADED inside with caps and inductors designed to prevent that from happening, (the EMI). As for wear, well the motor doesnt spin that fast, its a multi pole DC motor like that from a cordless drill but with a lot more coils of wire. Its really smooth spinning and well... it wet my pants, LITERALLY.

Anyways, thats it for now... soon.. soooooo sooooooon this project will be up and running. I gotta build the Radiator enclosure yet.

Catchya!!!
